SOLO EXHIBITION
CAIRO ILLUSTRATED
SEPT–NOV 2022 • CAIRO, EGYPT
To walk in a busy street of Cairo is to have every inch of the city demands your constant, and undivided attention. In order to understand this city, the artist wished to bring the bustling city to a momentary standstill. Each illustration captures a moment in space, expanding it visually as if freezing it in time. The use of black and white simplifies and reduces, while the details maintain the moment’s intricacies.
Following the success the first solo exhibit, Cairo Illustrated: Stories of Heliopolis, in Dubai, all of the Cairo Illustrated pieces were gathered into a curated show for the first time in Cairo, Egypt.
Pieces such as the top two artworks, Bustling Winter Morning in el-Moez (2020), and Somewhere in Bab el-Wazir Street, el-Darb el-Ahmar (2022) were exhibited together to highlight the evolution line work throughout the series. Other pieces, such as Dozing Street Vendor in Midan el-Game’, Heliopolis (2022) and Pensive Shopkeeper in Khan el-Khalili, el-Moez (2022) are more intimate, with a close look at the subject and their surroundings.
