DIWAN PUBLISHING
CAIRO TRILOGY COVERS
Commissioned by Diwan Publishing, the Naguib Mahfouz Project invited young Egyptian emerging artists to celebrate the legacy and work of the writer by illustrating new covers. This was done in an effort to attract a younger demographic to the Nobel Prize laureate’s work.
In the case of his trilogy, each titled is named after a street in Old Cairo, where the stories take place. The cover illustrations depict that neighbourhood, capturing its shops, residents and energy. Small details, such as the people’s clothing or the flags on the first cover, allude to the passage of time, as the trilogy’s story unfolds over three decades.
