CORNICHE 2020
EAST OF HOME

East of Home reflects on Cairo’s patterns of urban growth since the 19th century. As the city’s population expands, wealthier residents continuously seek out less crowded and more leisurely neighborhoods, moving farther from the city center, away from home. However, without long-term planning that involves all stratas of society, these new areas often encounter the same challenges people initially sought to escape, which leads us to repeat the cycle.

The six-page comic was commissioned for the book anthology Corniche 2020 published under Sharjah Art Foundation, which features a number of prominent UAE-based artists.
